Formation of the Future Continuous

Affirmative

Future Continuous is formed of the simple future of the auxiliary TO BE (WILL BE) + the main verb in -ING form.

Long form Short form
  • I will be talking
• You will be talking
• He / She / It will be talking

• We will be talking
• You will be talking
• They will be talking
  • I’ll be talking
• You’ll be talking
• He / She / It’ll be talking

• We’ll be talking
• You’ll be talking
• They’ll be talking

 

Negative

The negative is formed by inserting NOT between WILL and BE (WILL NOT BE) + the main verb in -ING form.  

Long form Short form
  • I will not be talking
• You will not be talking
• He / She / It will not be talking

• We will not be talking
• You will not be talking
• They will not be talking

  • I won’t be talking
• You won’t be talking
• He / She / It won’t be talking

• We won’t be talking
• You won’t be talking
• They won’t be talking

OR
  • I’ll not be talking
• You’ll not be talking
• He / She / It’ll not be talking

• We’ll not be talking
• You’ll not be talking
• They’ll not be talking

 

Interrogative – affirmative

The affirmative interrogative is formed by placing WILL in front of the subject followed by BE + the main verb in -ING form.

• Will I be talking?
• Will you be talking?
• Will he / she / it be talking?

• Will we be talking?
• Will you be talking?
• Will they be talking?

Interrogative – negative

The long negative interrogative is formed by placing WILL in front of the subject followed by NOT + BE + the main verb in -ING form.
The short negative interrogative is formed by placing WON’T in front of the subject followed by BE +  the main verb in -ING form

• Will he / she / it not be talking?

  • Won’t I be talking?
